George Osborne announced that children younger than 12 flying in economy will be exempt from paying air tax from May 1 next year, and under 16s from 2016. It means that a family of four will save up to £142 each time they fly on a direct flight from Britain. It also means that families who have already bought children’s flights departing later than May 1 will be entitled to refunds.

The archipelago’s arrivals were down 2.5 percent year-over-year through the end of August, the biggest decline of any Caribbean destination in that period. The decline is the result of a particularly slow summer season, when arrivals dropped by 8.2 percent.
