In the wake of last week's House of Representatives vote against relaxing long-standing restrictions on U.S. citizens' travel to Cuba, Latour has announced it will increase the number of its 2015 and 2016 licensed people-to-people tour programs to Cuba.

The Caribbean continues its rapid growth rate from 2014 when arrivals grew by 5.3 percent to 26.3 million visitors. Arrivals to the Caribbean were estimated to be 7.9 million in the first three months. This is the fifth consecutive year in which arrivals grew during a first quarter.

The U.S. Tour Operators Association launched a new promotion for travel to Peru in partnership with Travcoa, a member tour operator; PromPeru, the tourism promotion entity for Peru; and LAN, the Latin American airline.

It’s one of the Caribbean’s far under-the-radar destinations, but Guyana is showing significant tourism growth this year. The country received 46,369 visitor arrivals in the first quarter of 2015, a 13.9 percent increase over the same period in 2014.

A recent attempt by members of the House of Representatives to block new cruises and flights to Cuba won’t likely get far, according to a recent statement from the White House.

Today’s Caribbean travelers want to do more than sit in the sun and drink rum punch, according to Arnie Weissmann, editor in chief of Travel Weekly. Weissmann addressed more than 100 agents at a travel agent seminar during the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s annual Caribbean Week event here.
