Barceló Hotel Group, the second-largest hotel chain in Spain, officially joined the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) as a Global Member today.

This partnership comes during a year of rapid international growth for the brand, which has already launched several high-profile properties in 2026, including the Royal Hideaway Casablanca and the Occidental Cairo Grand Museum.

By joining the WTTC, Barceló aligns itself with a global network of industry leaders dedicated to driving sustainable and resilient tourism policies.

Joining the Council is a mechanical necessity for Barceló as it manages a portfolio of over 280 hotels and 65,000 rooms across 30 countries.

The group intends to collaborate on global initiatives related to decarbonization and inclusive hiring practices, ensuring its expansion remains consistent with international ESG standards.

This "strategic seat at the table" allows Barceló to influence global tourism policy at a time when the K-shaped economy is creating a widening gap between luxury and mid-market hospitality demand.

For the 2026 luxury explorer, Barceló’s expansion offers a host of newly renovated landmarks in Italy, Germany, and Turkey. The group’s focus on "regenerative hospitality" means that guests can expect more locally sourced experiences and zero-waste operations at its newest flagship properties.

As the World Cup 2026 approaches, Barceló is also preparing its North American and Caribbean assets for a surge in international demand, positioning itself as a primary choice for travelers seeking Spanish-inspired luxury on a global scale
