Machu Picchu Recognized as the Top Destination in the Americas
Machu Picchu has been awarded top honors in the Best Vacations 2026 ranking by U.S. News & World Report, one of the most influential tourism rankings in the United States. The iconic Peruvian site received the Gold Badge, recognizing it as the best destination in Central and South America.
In addition, Machu Picchu ranked eighth among the best places to visit worldwide, reinforcing its status as one of the most fascinating destinations on the planet. The ancient Inca citadel stands out for its exceptional cultural, natural, and historical value, making it a global symbol of heritage tourism.
Peru continues to strengthen its position in international tourism, with Machu Picchu playing a key role. The country is the most visited destination in South America, receiving 50.7% of international tourist arrivals to the region.
Machu Picchu has also been recognized for its commitment to sustainability through a Green Initiative certification, ensuring that the management of the sanctuary aligns with climate action goals and principles of regenerative tourism. The U.S. News & World Report ranking evaluates more than 1,500 destinations worldwide.
