UN Tourism Secretary General Arrives in Cuba

The secretary general of UN Tourism, Zurab Polilikashvili, arrived today in Cuba to attend important travel industry events organized in this country.

In its Facebook account, the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) of this nation added that Polilikashvili is visiting this island to attend the 69th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas, and was received by the head of the sector in Cuba, Juan Carlos García.

The aforementioned meeting will take place in the western resort of Varadero, as a prior step to the 42nd International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024) scheduled for May 1 to 5, in the north-central destination of Jardines del Rey.

UN Tourism, formerly known as the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is an international organization whose purpose is to promote this economic sector.

It has been formally linked to the United Nations since 1976 when it became an executive agency of the UNDP.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was created through the merger of the United Nations Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance, created in 1949, and the United Nations Special Fund, established in 1959.
