Alaska Airlines has unveiled ambitious plans for a new Alaska Lounge at San Diego International Airport (SAN), marking one of the carrier’s most significant investments in passenger experience. Spanning 13,000 square feet, the premium space will be among the largest lounges at the airport. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The San Diego Lounge is part of Alaska’s multi-billion-dollar infrastructure program aimed at creating modern spaces that redefine the preflight experience. The lounge will feature private work areas, signature loungers, locally inspired refreshments, a full-service bar, and a barista station offering handcrafted espresso drinks, all designed to reflect San Diego’s vibrant culture.

“Our Lounges are an extension of the hospitality and comfort we deliver in the air,” said Todd Traynor-Corey, vice president of guest products and experience at Alaska Airlines. “With this new space in San Diego, we are shaping the future of travel with environments that feel seamless, elevated, and welcoming.”

The investment highlights San Diego’s role as a key hub for Alaska and its partner Hawaiian Airlines. Alaska currently operates 45 nonstop destinations from SAN—the most of any carrier at the airport. In 2025, the airline expanded its reach with new routes to Phoenix, Denver, Chicago O’Hare, Washington D.C., Medford, and Sun Valley.

Airport officials welcomed the announcement. Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, noted that Alaska’s new lounge will enhance the customer experience, providing travelers with premium dining and relaxation options.

Access to the Alaska Lounge program is complimentary for First Class guests flying over 2,000 miles and for Lounge+ members, who also benefit from entry to nearly 90 partner lounges worldwide, including the American Airlines Admirals Club. Through its partnership with Hawaiian Airlines and the oneworld alliance, Alaska provides connections to more than 330 destinations globally.

Beyond aviation, Alaska is also investing in community initiatives across San Diego, including career pathway programs at San Diego State University and sponsorship of the Miramar Air Show, honoring service members and veterans.
