American Airlines will fly to five Cuban cities following Wednesday's approval of the company's request to the U.S. government to resume its operations on the island, interrupted in 2019 by Donald Trump's administration.
The Transportation Department's decision will allow the airline to resume flights from Miami to Santa Clara, Varadero, Holguín, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, AP reported.
American Airlines said that as of November it will operate two flights a day to Santa Clara and one a day to each airport in the other destinations.
The company currently operates six daily flights between Miami and Havana. It is the largest operator between the United States and Cuba, with 46% of the market share. JetBlue and Southwest also fly to the Cuban capital.
In early June, the U.S. Department of Transportation lifted flight restrictions imposed during the Trump administration in 2019 that prevented U.S. airline flights and charter flights from going to Cuban cities other than Havana.
