Azul S.A., Brazil’s largest airline by number of flights and destinations, has received interim court approvals following its voluntary Chapter 11 filing in the U.S. on May 28, 2025. The approvals came during a successful First Day Hearing, allowing the company to move forward with its accelerated transformation process.

As part of this approval, Azul can immediately access $250 million of its $1.6 billion debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing, ensuring sufficient liquidity to support continued operations. The airline confirmed that all tickets, loyalty points, travel packages, and customer benefits remain valid, with sales and operations continuing as usual.

“This is a pivotal milestone in positioning Azul for long-term success,” said John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul. “With strong support from strategic partners like United Airlines, American Airlines, and AerCap, we are accelerating our transformation to reduce leverage and strengthen our financial future.”

The Second Day Hearing is scheduled for July 9, 2025, when the court will consider Azul’s motions on a final basis. Azul reaffirmed its commitment to safely connecting Brazil and providing excellent customer service throughout the restructuring.
