FITUR 2023: Small Travel Destinations Recognized

More destinations have received the distinction of smart tourist destinations during the celebration of the 11th edition of Fitur Know-How & Export, an initiative created by SEGITTUR and FITUR, in collaboration with ICEX Spain Exportation and Investment.

The day was inaugurated by the director of FITUR, María Valcarce, the CEO of ICEX, María Peña, and the president of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez.

The president of SEGITTUR highlighted during his speech that the main objective of this initiative is to promote the internationalization of Spanish companies in a context such as FITUR, a meeting point between tourism companies and more than 131 countries around the world, which It constitutes a unique opportunity to reach new markets.

ICEX has been working for years to strengthen the opening of opportunities in the multilateral arena, supporting the presence of representatives of different international financial institutions and facilitating contact with Spanish companies in the sector. In this context, the round table "Multilateral Financing of Post-Covid Sustainable Tourism" has been organized, which will have the participation of the World Bank, CAF and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Data management as a key to improving the competitiveness of destinations has been one of the main conclusions of today's conference, in which various digital transformation initiatives that will be carried out by the different smart tourist destinations have also been presented. .

Likewise, the aid linked to the Next Generation funds has been reviewed to promote digitization in the tourism sector, both in destinations and in SMEs, among which there has been talk of "Last Mile", of which the recently published order of bases of the second call, which will be very well received by tourism SMEs, since it introduces important improvements compared to the first call.

The destinations distinguished today as smart tourist destinations have been Alcalá de Henares, Almuñécar, Calafell, Calviá, Carmona, Ceuta, Conil, Cuellar, Fuengirola, Gea de Albarracín, La Adrada, Lleida, Mula, Pamplona, ​​Plasencia, Rota, San Javier, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Sitges, Tías-Lanzarote, Torroella, Villaviciosa and Zafra.

In the context of FITUR, the report "Future jobs in smart cities and destinations" has been presented, prepared jointly by the COTEC Foundation and SEGITTUR, which includes a proposal for 46 new jobs to be incorporated into the management of cities and destinations to face the challenges of smart development in local entities.

Likewise, the third edition of the catalog of technological solutions for smart tourist destinations was presented, which includes 354 solutions from 151 companies, categorized by model axes, type of solutions and services and type of destinations.
