Havana Dressed Up in White for a Special Dinner
For 30 years, since the idea came up in the center of Paris, so-called dinners in white have been held.
A mix of giant family reunion with classic touches of picnics and spontaneity are the name of the game for this type of gathering.
Its key to success also lies in the absolute secrecy surrounding the selection of a specific location. And of course, for three decades the guideline that has reigned over the use of white in almost everything related to les dîners -tablecloths, napkins and the costumes of the guests- cannot be breached.
On March 6, 2019, the dinner in white will be held in the Cuban capital. Obviously, the information of the location is saved with zeal ... If we try to guess, we could bet on El Paseo del Prado - where the mythical Chanel parade took place in 2016 - or the green lawn of the Divina Pastora, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the city; or it could even be held in the centenary parks of the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña.
The creator of the event, François Pasquier, determined in 1988 that it was the responsibility of the participants to provide tables, chairs, tablecloths, napkins, white crockery and glasses. They could even bring candles and decorative elements, as well as their own food and drinks. At the closing, guests collected the trash as a sign of respect for the location.
Currently, there is the possibility of renting everything necessary for the picnic through the website of Le Dîner en Blanc, where a waiting list to be part of this event is also updated.
Le Dîner sends notifications to its guests and they only have to sign up for the dinner. The closing of the function includes fireworks, the photographs and the memories of that night.
This is one of the events that has garnered massive turnouts in all five continents. The organizers marked, from the beginning, the concept that people spend time together without differences, so in this appointment there are no VIP or reserved areas. Once the destination is unknown, the organizers carry the participants in buses to the selected spot.
