Marriott International to Convert Three Mexican Properties to All-Inclusive Resorts
Marriott International has officially executed a strategic agreement with The Reef Resorts & Spa to rebrand three distinct properties in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, under the premium all-inclusive service model. The multi-property conversion project, scheduled to commence renovations in late 2026, will integrate the resorts into the Tribute Portfolio Collection by 2027.
The expansion initiative represents a major increase in Marriott’s regional footprint, adding six hundred seventy-six total rooms to their all-inclusive portfolio. The agreement also includes the development of versatile event spaces capable of accommodating up to nine hundred delegates.
The specific properties slated for transformation include The Reef Playacar Beachfront Resort & Spa (one hundred ninety-eight rooms), The Reef 28 Adults-Only Luxury Hotel & Spa (one hundred twenty rooms), and The Reef Coco Beachfront Resort & Spa (currently one hundred ninety-eight rooms, with a planned expansion to three hundred fifty-eight units by two thousand twenty-eight).
Jorge Montalvo, President of the Board of Directors for The Reef Resorts & Spa, characterized the partnership as a pivotal new chapter for the company. Montalvo stated that the alliance ensures the preservation of the unique local identity of each resort while leveraging Marriott’s extensive global distribution network, the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty platform, and the corporation’s established expertise in the competitive all-inclusive segment.
Alonso Burgos, Vice President of Development for the Caribbean and Latin America at Marriott International, emphasized that the pact reinforces Mexico’s position as a high-growth priority market for the global hotel chain. Burgos noted that the company remains committed to expanding its regional presence by offering travelers a value proposition that synthesizes destination-specific authenticity with the rigorous operational and commercial standards of a global hospitality platform.
Industry analysts observe that this rebranding effort reflects a broader trend among major international hotel groups to capture the growing demand for upscale, seamless travel experiences. By diversifying its portfolio in Playa del Carmen, Marriott aims to solidify its market share among travelers seeking the convenience of all-inclusive packages without sacrificing luxury or loyalty program connectivity.
