The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) announced that Miami-Dade County welcomed over 28 million visitors in 2024, setting a new all-time record. The tourism sector generated $22 billion in visitor spending and $2.2 billion in state and local tax revenue, supporting over 209,000 tourism-related jobs, the highest number to date.

The data was unveiled during the State of the Travel & Tourism Industry event at Jungle Island, where more than 600 attendees, including public officials and industry partners, gathered to celebrate the strength of Greater Miami and Miami Beach's tourism economy—responsible for 9% of the county’s GDP.

In 2024, Miami-Dade led Florida in hotel occupancy and ranked fourth in the U.S. among top 25 hotel markets. International visitors from Colombia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom saw year-over-year increases of 8%, 12%, and 10%, respectively. The GMCVB also reported 3% growth in domestic visitor spending and 5% in international visitor spending.

Convention and events tourism continues to drive business, with the Miami Beach Convention Center securing 16 major bookings in FY2024, accounting for 65,000 attendees, over 107,000 room nights, and an economic impact exceeding $131 million. A new 800-room Grand Hyatt convention center hotel is also under construction, set to open in 2027.

On the marketing front, the GMCVB launched the Creator Collective and expanded its neighborhood digital mapping, propelling @VisitMiami to become the fastest-growing DMO Instagram channel. A refreshed Miami Spice culinary campaign is planned for 2025, tapping into the city’s growing reputation as a Michelin-recognized destination.

Sustainability and accessibility were key priorities, with 71 hotels in the certification pipeline through Green Key Global and partnerships with Wheel the World and IBCCES positioning Miami as a leader in inclusive travel. The GMCVB and MBCC were recently recognized as Certified Autism Centers.

The Multicultural Tourism & Development Department supported 147 small businesses and expanded the Art of Black Miami initiative to 14 neighborhoods, while raising $250,000 in scholarships for future hospitality professionals through the BHI program.

Events like Art Basel, Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, and the Latin GRAMMYs fueled visitor interest in 2024, with even bigger sporting events on the horizon in 2026, including the FIFA World Cup, NASCAR Championship, and College Football Playoff National Championship, set to further elevate the destination’s global profile.
