In one of the largest private-sector emergency operations of the decade, TUI Group announced today that it has successfully returned all 10,000 package holiday guests who were stranded in the Middle East following the outbreak of conflict in Iran.

The two-week "herculean effort" involved 12 dedicated TUI Airline flights and more than 26 chartered aircraft to evacuate travelers from the UAE, Qatar, and the Maldives. A critical breakthrough occurred when the crisis management team secured emergency access to Al Ain Airport, providing a vital "release valve" for guests who could not reach the primary hubs in Dubai or Doha.

The operation was particularly complex for the 5,000 cruise passengers aboard Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5, which were effectively trapped behind the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. TUI coordinated a massive "land-bridge" transfer, moving passengers by bus from the ports to secure airfields to bypass the volatile maritime corridor. This successful repatriation has been hailed by the company as a "powerful endorsement" of the package holiday model, which provides travelers with a "legal and moral safety net" that independent travelers often lack during a sudden geopolitical crisis.

While all guests are now safely home, the "financial and operational impact" on the company’s Eastern Mediterranean and Gulf programs remains significant. TUI has reported a "sharp pivot" in booking momentum toward Mallorca, the Canary Islands, and Crete, as travelers seek out "geopolitically stable" alternatives for their spring and summer vacations. The company is now focused on repositioning its fleet and supporting its local partners in the Middle East who have been "disproportionately affected" by the sudden cessation of tourism in the region.
