The city of Yantai has taken a decisive step in its international positioning as a benchmark for wine tourism by receiving the international OMET–Biosphere certification as a Responsible Wine Tourism Destination.

The distinction was celebrated with an institutional toast during the 2nd Global Summit on Responsible Wine Tourism organized by the World Organization of Wine Tourism (OMET), an event that brings together delegations from more than 20 countries.

It was presided over by Yu Yongxin, president of the regional wine industry, and Zhou Hongjiang, president of the emblematic winery Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Co., Ltd., one of the most recognized in the country.

The event also featured the participation of prominent figures from the international wine tourism sector, such as José Antonio Vidal, president of OMET and founder of the Spanish Wine Tourism Association (AEE), and José Carlos de Santiago, president of the Excelencias Group.

During his speech, José Antonio Vidal congratulated Yantai for its effort and determination in achieving this recognition. The OMET president stated that the city has overcome challenges and seized opportunities with vision and perseverance. He also noted that this important certification is not a final destination, but a new starting point for China’s global leadership in wine tourism.

Vidal also expressed his gratitude to Catherine Leparmentier, director of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, for her recognition of Yantai as the first Chinese city to obtain international certification as a Responsible Wine Tourism Destination.
