46 Years Dancing with Van Van
On December 4, Van Van, a band known as The Train of Cuban Music, will be turning 46 years old. The band, a member of Clave Cubana’s catalog, Artex’s artistic representation agency, will be celebrating this new anniversary with a mega concert slated for La Tropical’s Salon Rosado, an Artex’s cultural center located in Playa, on Saturday December 5, at 8:30 pm.
In addition to the concert, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a documentary film entitled Havana-Formell, which was premiered in the Cuban capital on Wednesday December 2, at the Charles Chaplin Movie Theater. Teeming with great testimonial value, the documentary film features interviews of boldface names that talk about Van Van’s impact on the audience, and it also shows maestro Santiago Alfonso’s choreographies.
French producer Dominique Roland proposes a nearly hour-long tour across some of the places that represented a source of inspiration for a remarkable creator, the late Juan Formell, leader of the band until his passing in 2014: Havana’s Seawall, Trillo Park, Cayo Hueso neighborhood where he was born, among others.
Havana-Formellis part of the CD Van Van 45, which also comprises a DVD of the concert staged by the band on June 7, 2014 at Enghien les Bains city, where over 15,000 people enjoyed its music. It will be screened during the concert on December 5 at La Tropical.
Last but not least, another audiovisual presentation will be showed on Van Van’s anniversary evening. It’ll be producer Alejandro Varela’s latest music video, "Somos diferentes", one of the songs of the album entitled La Fantasía.
The celebration of the 46th anniversary of Van Van will be crowned by excellent Cuban music and the premiere of three audiovisual presentations related to the band and Master Juan Formell’s legacy, on Saturday December 5, at La Tropical’s Salon Rosado.
Havana Formell is set to be screened since mid-December at movie theaters in Havana, thus paying tribute to the Train of Cuban Music.
