American Cruise Lines Introduces New Itinerary for 2010

American Cruise Lines has added a new itinerary to its 2010 schedule -- the “Philadelphia and Potomac Cruise,” which will sail between Philadelphia and the Washington, D.C. area.
The seven-night cruise aboard the American Spirit will sail on the Delaware River, through the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, into the Chesapeake Bay and up Potomac River. Stops along the course will include the C&D Canal; Chestertown, St. Michaels, Annapolis and St. Mary’s, Md.; and Mt. Vernon and Alexandria, Va., near Washington, D.C.
The itinerary visits cities and towns that played a role in shaping our nation, including three cities that served as the nation’s capital. Two historic homes are included -- Winterthur, the former home of Henry Francis du Pont, and Mt. Vernon, the plantation home of George Washington.
Other shore excursions include sailing the Chester River onboard a traditional schooner, a visit to the renowned Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and a trolley tour of our nation’s capital.
The 100-passenger American Spirit features large staterooms, many with private balconies; observation decks; a library; and a glass-enclosed dining room. American Cruise Lines operates 10 itineraries along the East Coast of the U.S.
