Another Record Year for Aruba

The Aruba Tourism Authority has announced that the island continued to ‘buck the trend’ in the Caribbean in 2010, with another record year in terms of UK visitor numbers. More than 14,500 British holidaymakers visited the destination in 2010, 26.3 percent more than the 11,500 who travelled to the island in the previous year.

Annual UK visitor numbers in Aruba passed the 10,000 mark for the first time in a single year in 2009 and the island’s tourism agency is expecting more than 15,000 guests in 2011.

Joanna Walding, UK director of the Aruba Tourism Authority, said: ‘Despite the recession, ash clouds, the World Cup and economic uncertainty, Aruba had another record year and has remained one of the fastest-growing destinations in the Caribbean for British holidaymakers.

‘We have now firmly established ourselves as one of the top ten destinations in the Caribbean for the UK market.’

A £300,000 advertising campaign is being launched to promote the island in the UK, featuring promotions on London buses and the Underground, as well as a fleet of branded taxis that will be visible on the streets of the capital and Manchester.
