Artex’s Ediciones Cubanas at Cuba’s Book Festival + Programming

The 26th edition of the Havana International Book Fair, slated for February 9-19, 2017, is already under way at the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña.
Ediciones Cubanas, the publishing company of Cuban holding company Artex S.A., will be located in vault D1 and will present eight new titles, four of them for children, and a reprint edition, Príapos by Daniel Chavarría.Ediciones Cubanas will also take advantage of the Book Fair framework to begin celebrations for its 40th anniversary.
In addition to the publishing frenzy, Cartelera, the cultural, tourism-oriented and commercial magazine put out by Artex, is also on birthday - the 35th- and during the book celebration there will be a well-deserved tribute to review events and cultural functions of great relevance occurred in Cuba in that time span.

Su majestad el heladoallows us to put ourselves through a thorough research into the glamor of an exquisite and practically obligatory dessert in any diner.The exhaustive research proposed by the author is not limited to the history and emergence of this delicacy. In turn, it will detail the human and material mechanisms involved in its manufacturing process all the way to the tasty preparations. Between data and descriptions, the history of some of the most identifiable spaces of the Havana city environment will be traced and perhaps in its most important brushstroke, Coppelia. At the end of the road, the author will leave in the reader’s mind countless colors and flavors ready to be discovered in an ice cream.

A doctor who fulfills his Social Service in an intricate site of eastern Cuba and who must attend several cases of priapism -continuous and painful erection of the manly member- in a very short timeframe, is the story that Chavarría tells in his book Priapus.The physician, interested in investigating the origin and incidence of such an unusual pathology, intends to discover the "secret" of those "rigidities", some of them with dramatic sequels for patients.

Leyendas Cubanas,authored by the late educator, Latin American Literature researcher, journalist and writer, Salvador Bueno, collects stories of popular tradition in Cuba, unfolded in the range of colors of their culture.In them stands out the marked Hispanic accent of the legends of the colonial rule; the lyricism of country narratives in the exaltation of nature; as well as the African tales brought by men who, stripped of their ethnic groups, wanted to preserve their ancestral cultures by mixing them with the rulers’ imposed culture.
In his book, Bueno brings the reader closer to the profile of the Cuban, his beliefs and customs, his values, seen through the original narratives arising from the voice of the humblest people.They are stories with a singular richness, because each and every one of them has a punchline that goes all the way back to its origin.
