Barbados Tourism Official Urges Islanders to Stay Home

A Barbados tourism official is urging islanders to stay close to home during this year’s summer season to help get the Caribbean country’s economy back on track.
Michelle Smith-Mayers is assistant vice president of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association. She says more “staycations” would significantly help boost tourism revenue this summer.
The Barbados Central Bank announced in July that the tourism-dependent island’s economy was in a recession.
