Barceló Hotels to Revamp a Dozen Properties in Latin America

Following extensive renovations that were undertaken at Barceló Hotel Group’s two large Caribbean resorts, the Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort (Dominican Republic) and the Barceló Maya Grand Resort (Mexico), the leading global hospitality brand began a plan in 2016 to renovate (partially or fully) 12 of its most important hotels in Latin America.

Thanks to this $110 million initiative, many of Barceló Hotel Group’s all-inclusive Latin American resorts have started the high season in the Caribbean with improved facilities.

The hotels to be renovated in the 2017-2018 period are Occidental Tucancun (México), Occidental Costa Cancún (México), Royal Hideaway Playacar (México), Allegro Playacar (México), Occidental Cozumel (México), Allegro Cozumel (México), Occidental at Xcaret Destination (México), El Embajador, a Royal Hideaway Hotel (Dominican Republic), Occidental Caribe (Dominican Republic), Occidental Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Barceló Aruba (Aruba) and Occidental Papagayo (Costa Rica)

Many of the renovated properties previously were part of the Occidental Hotels & Resorts chain, which was acquired by Barceló Hotel Group in August 2015.

Most improvements were made in order to adapt and coordinate to the high standards of other Barceló Hotel Group brands. Additionally, Barceló Hotel Group introduced new, upgraded architecture to some properties, in order to better define brand standards and guest experiences.

One of Barceló Hotel Group’s most noteworthy 2017 projects is the remodeling of one of the more iconic properties in of all of the Caribbean: El Embajador, a Royal Hideaway Hotel -- located in the heart of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). In its day, the hotel was considered a hot spot for actors, celebrities and leaders visiting the Dominican capital.

Following renovations that were undertaken this year by Barceló Hotel Group, the Ambassador will return to its former glory as a landmark of luxury and exclusivity for Latin American Tourism in the 21st century. The renovations are slated for completion in Q3 of 2017.

Of the 116 hotels that Barceló Hotel Group currently has in its portfolio, 41 are located in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the importance of this division within the group is even more relevant, considering the majority of the Group’s rooms (33,905 rooms in Latin America and 15,587 rooms in the Caribbean) are in Latin American establishments.
