Berlin Unveils Schedule of Winter, Holiday Events
Berlin unveiled its winter events calendar. Christmas Markets operate in November and December 2010. Berlin features 60 Christmas fairs, which open their gates at the end of November. Berlin’s largest and most popular Christmas market is the Spandau Christmas Market (Nov. 24 to Dec. 23, 2010), held in the Old Town of the suburban district Spandau.
A more unusual holiday market is Berlin’s Hanukkah Market, celebrated annually at the Jewish Museum Berlin. The fair features Hanukkah products from around the world, Jewish delicacies, kosher mulled wine and concerts (Nov. 28 to Dec. 26).
Set on the square between the Concert House and the German and French cathedrals, Christmas Magic Gendarmenmarkt features craftsmen presenting their work, and there is a daily entertainment program with jugglers, acrobats, fire artists, dancers, and musicians (Nov. 22 to Dec. 31).
The “Fourth European Month of Photography (Oct. 15 to Nov. 28) is the largest festival dedicated to photography in Europe. More than 120 galleries, museums, and cultural institutions take part in the event and organize exhibitions that explore this year’s theme of “Modern times, new pictures”.
Berlin’s New Years Eve Party on Dec. 31 is one of the largest open-air New Year’s Eve parties in the world. More than one million visitors are expected to ring in the New Year at the Brandenburg Gate and to celebrate on Berlin’s party mile, which stretches all the way to the Victory Column. Featuring show stages, DJs, dance floors, light shows, food tents and spectacular fireworks, party-goers can celebrate all night long until the wee hours of the next morning.
