Boosted by its new 2974-passenger Carnival Freedom, Carnival Cruise Lines expects to carry a record 2.9 million passengers to the Caribbean this winter-spring. It will have 18 ships in the Caribbean conducting more than 1150 circuits.

New to Carnival is a $250 million “Evolutions of Fun” project. In a project to be completed in 2009, the company will add expansive children’s water parks, new design styles and features for pool areas, and “Serenity” adults-only deck areas.

The line’s eight Fantasy-class vessels –starting with the 2052-passenger Inspiration and Imagination- will be the initial ships to receive the makeovers.

Following will be the Fantasy, Ecstasy, Fascination, Sensation, Elation, and Paradise. Interior changes include remodeled staterooms, flat-screen television, New York-style delis in the Lido restaurants, spa improvements, and new shows and theater capabilities.
