Carnival’s Puerta Maya Cruise Pier Reopened
Carnival’s pier at Puerta Maya in Cozumel, Mexico, reopened when the Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Fantasy docked at the facility on Oct. 16. The remained closed since Hurricane Wilma damaged it in October 2005.
More than $50 million were invested in the two-berth pier, which can now withstand a Category 5 hurricane and can accommodate any ship in the Carnival Corp. family of brands (including Carnival, Princess, Costa and Holland America), said the cruise line.
Puerta Maya’s nine-acre cruise center, which features a variety of shops and restaurants, will also reopen, as will a four-acre transportation hub that can accommodate dozens of taxis and tour buses, said Carnival.
In addition to docking at Puerta Maya, Carnival Corp. ships will continue to make use of the other two piers in Cozumel.
