Celebrity Cruises Removes Labadee from Itineraries over Safety Advisory

Celebrity Cruises has revised its upcoming sailings on its Celebrity Apex vessel (Nov 2025–Apr 2026), removing Labadee, Haiti from a dozen itineraries due to a U.S. Level 4 travel advisory. The advisory cites serious concerns including crime, kidnapping, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare.
Affected seven-night cruises originally scheduled to include Labadee will now call at Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos instead. The change underscores cruise lines’ growing sensitivity to traveler safety and geopolitical developments.
Labadee has long been a private beach stop in many Caribbean cruises. Its exclusion may reduce port calls and on-shore spending in Haiti, impacting both local operators and employees tied to those visits.
Celebrity Cruises emphasized that the change is being made out of “abundance of caution” for guest welfare. Passengers with bookings for those itineraries are being notified and offered alternatives.
The move may have ripple effects: replacing Labadee with alternative ports may push up demand and strain those new destinations’ infrastructure and port services. Also, it draws attention to how sensitive cruise schedules are to travel advisories.
Overall, the decision reflects a broader trend in the cruise industry toward avoiding destinations with elevated risk, even if they have historically been popular for cruise stopovers.
