Cozumel´s tourist sector keeps reeling in more tourists and putting larger amounts of cash into the state´s coffers, even though the figures are way below the numbers posted by the industry in previous years.

Local authorities hope to rake in far more national tourists in the course of the ongoing year, according to an assessment published by local newspaper Novedades de Quintana Roo.

During the week that ended on February 27, tourist inflows continued growing at a steady pace with 35 cruises that carried roughly 105,000 passengers aboard. The number of sunbathers that traveled to Cancun and Mayan Riviera was also pretty high all through that weeklong period.

The coming of those deluxe vessels to the shores of Cozumel brought welcome news for local restaurants, hotels, providers of nautical services and sellers of part-time travel packages, sectors that hope to see their gains shoot up in the course of 2005.
