After two days of holiday cruise fun following a Christmas day departure, Matt Davis and wife Susan were going to dinner at a 10th floor dining room when they were confronted with a horrific scene — blood cascading down an elevator as its doors haltingly opened and closed.

"To look and see the elevator with just blood coming down like a sheet, and not stopping... it was a real life scene of 'The Shining,'" Matt Davis said to Fox 4.

The couple told the station that the blood cataract sounded like a “rainstorm” and the scent of blood was in the air.

"One of the crew people from Carnival was trying to get people to go back to the restaurant," Matt Davis told Fox 4, and in the video of the scene made by the couple, a woman can be heard yelling, "Come inside please!"

Matt said to Fox 4 that he later saw the elevator cordoned off with a sign reading, "Sorry, but I'm not working at the moment.”

Matt received information from various crewmembers about what had happened in the elevator, and he concluded to Fox 4, "A crew member or somebody was inside or behind that wall when the elevator came down, and I don't know what happened, but something terrifying happened."

Fox 4 was told by a Miami-Dade Police spokesperson that the victim is 66-year-old electrician Jose Sandoval Opazo, and the cause of death is still under investigation.

"I couldn't wait to get off the ship. I just wanted to get off," Matt Davis said to Four in Your Corner's Lisa Greenberg.

The Davises said Carnival offered the family three free counseling sessions.
