Cuba to Kick Off 2016 with Carnival
On February 25-28, 2016 Havana will be hosting the first Salsa Carnival, an initiative by Cuban musician Maykel Blanco, director of Salsa Mayor, a popular dance band comprised in the catalog of Musicalia, Artex’s artistic representation agency.
The Salsa Carnival, to take place along 1st Street in Havana’s Vedado, from E Street to A Street, is mainly aimed at creating a space where Cuban salsa plays the leading role, merging Cuban popular rhythms with state-of-the-art music-making ways, putting other artistic expressions in the mix, as well as paying tribute to musicians, intelligentsia and artists that have somehow contributed to enriching the prestige and promotion of such a Cuban genre.
This is why dance lessons are going to be given in parallel with artistic performances by the most prestigious Cuban salsa bands, as well as international and Cuban DJ, small-format bands, dance groups and circus artists.
The list of bands to participate in the first edition of the Salsa Carnival is made up of:
