Delta, NYC Port Authority Join Hands on LaGuardia Airport Terminal Overhaul
One day after announcing plans to move forward on a $1.9 billion relocation and upgrade project at Los Angeles International Airport, Delta Air Lines revealed that it will partner with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to redevelop Terminals C and D at New York's LaGuardia Airport.
The project was approved this week by the Port Authority, which will contribute $600 million to assist with construction and supporting infrastructure under the terms of a lease agreement to be negotiated at the airport through 2050.
Upon completion, Delta said its new terminal at LaGuardia will consist of 37 gates spanning four concourses. The concourses will be connected by a centralized check-in lobby, security checkpoint and baggage claim.
Thirty-three of the 37 gates will feature access to dual taxi lanes to help improve efficiency.
Other terminal features will include a larger Delta Sky Club with a Sky Deck, wider concourses and additional seating. Passengers can also expect 30 percent more concessions spaces.
Delta added that the terminal will integrate sustainable technologies and improvements in energy efficiency.
"Our participation in this historic project builds on the more than $2 billion Delta has invested in New York over the past seven years," said Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a statement accompanying Thursday's announcement. "We are honored to be a part of Governor Cuomo's and the Port Authority's comprehensive vision for a 21st-century LaGuardia Airport, and we look forward to many exciting milestones to come."
"Replacing these outmoded terminals is a major step forward in our reimagining of LaGuardia into a 21st-century, world-class airport worthy of the Empire State," said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement.
Delta's partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey comes after Governor Cuomo and Vice President Joe Biden first announced plans for a LaGuardia redesign last year.
Currently, Delta operates approximately 275 daily departures from Terminals A, C and D at LaGuardia.
