FIHAV: Cuba Flexes its Muscles in Regional Investment

Four years after its foundation, the Mariel Special Development Zone’s director general, Ana Teresa Igarza Martinez, unveiled the zone’s new website and rolled out the latest business portfolio during the Wednesday session of the Havana International Fair.

During the presentation, Mrs. Igarza said that in the course of the past twelve months, a dozen new project from Cuba, Portugal, Switzerland, Canada, Russia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, France and Spain have been approved for a grand total of 31 authorized users and a many as $11 billion worth of investment.

Two of the latest additions are Logística Hotelera del Caribe S.A., a Cuban-Spanish joint venture that will initially supply consumables for the Iberostar hotels on the island nation, and El Salado S.A., another joint venture between Cuba and Spain to build golf courses and condos.
