On Sept. 24, the Bávaro Beach Resort Hotel in the Dominican Republic was the venue for the first solidarity race in benefit of the Barceló Foundation, and, more specifically, of its Niños Buzo (Diver Children) project. More than 70 athletes took part in the race, which included various modalities: 5 and 10 kilometer races for men and for women together with a race for children.

With a beach that is considered one of the 10 best beaches in the world, the Bávaro Beach Resort Hotel provided an idyllic course for the race.

The winners of each of the modalities also won stays at the hotel, and in the case of the children, a commemorative medal and free entry to the water park.

All the money that was raised from the runners’ inscriptions was donated to the Niños Buzo project, and again more specifically, to improving the installations of the Cometas de Esperanza (Comets of Hope) school which the Barceló Foundation built in 2006. Located in Santiago de los Caballeros, the school was built in order to take 300 children away from the Rafey rubbish dump, and to offer them a better future.
