FITCuba 2011 Comes to a Close

Attendees to one of the Caribbean’s most important travel fairs agree these were intense working sessions of business and negotiations, as well as a magnificent opportunity to share views on beneficial experiences.

The gathering let participants take a firsthand look at the island nation’s tourism development in recent years and assess the potentials for an industry that has embarked on a worldwide campaign to promote its many travel destinations.

In this sense, UNWTO regional representative for the Americas, Carlos Vogeler, said the fair has gained momentum and attracted far more visitors with each passing year, including some boldface names from the industry.

Dedicated to Mexico as the guest country and Havana as the main city destination, FITCuba 2011 also fostered actions aimed at boosting multidestination among different countries.

Member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA is the Spanish acronym) exposed their integration strategies for regional tourism, while major hotel companies and countless visitors reaffirmed their confidence in destination Cuba.

Negotiations and deals for the upcoming travel seasons were the main outcomes of the tradeshow. Next year’s edition will take place in May 2012 in Cayo Santa Maria, a set of keys off the island nation’s north coast.
