Jamaica Welcomed More Visitors this Summer
Jamaica’s tourism industry is continuing to experience strong growth, with recent figures showing an increase in arrivals during the summer months. The Caribbean Tourism Organization revealed that the island welcomed 7.7 percent more visitors between July and September this year than in the same three-month period in 2009. A total of 642,182 people visited the destination during the quarter.
Tourism minister Edmund Bartlett said the growth was a result of the hard work of industry members to create a world-class product and sustained marketing efforts by the island’s tourist board.
“Jamaica's tourism is among the best in the world, which is why we continue to see a growing number of visitors coming to our shores despite the still difficult global economic climate,” he added.
The island was recently recognized at the grand final of the World Travel Awards in London, picking up the title of world’s leading cruise destination. Montego Bay was named the best location for a beach holiday.
