Japan Promotes Hiking, Climbing
The Japan National Tourist Office is promoting Japan’s wealth of mountain climbing and hiking this summer. From mid spring, Japan opens public access to its mountains and hiking paths for visitors all summer long.
The mountains of Japan offer a full range of trails and activities for both beginners and more advanced hikers. Even those who seek a more relaxed trip will enjoy panoramic views, hot springs and cultural experiences.
Out of 14 UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in Japan, two are in the mountains: Shirakami Mountain Range occupies northern Honshu Island, and consists of endless untouched nature including beech tree forests.
The 321,236 acres has very few paths in order to maintain an untouched environment, but there is a 5.5-hour hike to the top of Shirakami-Dake, a 4,042-foot peak with a view of the panoramic Shirakami Mountains.
