JAPEX 2018 Comes to a Close in Montego Bay
A slew of overseas buyers and local suppliers in the tourism sector converged at the Montego Bay Convention Center in St. James from September 23 to 25, for the 28th staging of Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX).
The annual event, put on by the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), provided the ideal forum for leading suppliers in Jamaica’s tourism industry to negotiate and network with overseas buyers.
In his message regarding this year’s staging, President of the JHTA, Omar Robinson, noted that the event provides the business-conducive atmosphere for participants to meet, collaborate and conduct business with wholesalers, tour operators and travel agents.
“It is also a golden opportunity for our partners in Jamaica’s agriculture and manufacturing sectors as we continue to integrate our suppliers and showcase valuable tourism linkages at JAPEX,” Mr. Robinson said.
He added that this year, the workshops will address critical topics, such as marketing small properties, interior decorating, energy efficiency and revenue management.
Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) is the single most important business generator for Jamaica's tourism industry.
In three days of pre-scheduled appointments, wholesalers, tour operators, and travel agents met face to face with close to 200 of Jamaica’s leading tourism suppliers to conduct business negotiations.
The event also included informative seminars on topical issues, allowing members of the Association to garner relevant information to make strategic decisions.
Among the 200 overseas tour operators, travel agents and media partners already registered for the trade show are major international hospitality and tourism players Air Canada Vacations, American Airlines, Delta Vacations, Apple Leisure Group, Expedia Inc, JetBlue Vacations, Perillo Tours, West Jet Vacations and TravelClick.
JAPEX 2018 also showcased the music and culture of Jamaica at the opening ceremony and the welcome party at Sandals Montego Bay.
