Lufthansa Calls Off Venezuela Flights

German airline Lufthansa is suspending its flights to Caracas in Venezuela due to economic difficulties in the country, according to reports.

In a statement, Lufthansa stated that it “will be forced to suspend our service between Caracas and Frankfurt as of 18 June”.

The company also revealed that currency controls in Venezuela had made it difficult to transfer currency, making it difficult to operate.

It noted that the demand for international flights to Venezuela had dropped in 2015 and in the first quarter of 2016. However, the airline said it hoped to resume services in future.
