Martinique Looks to Continue Cruise Sector Growth

Martinique was represented at the Cruise Shipping Miami conference, March 14 to 17, by a strong 10-person delegation led by Karine Roy-Camile, commissioner of the Martinique Tourism Authority.

Joining Roy-Camile were several high-ranking officials from the Martinique Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as well as the Cruise Association of Martinique. The island is making a concerted effort to continue recent gains in cruise travel to Martinique.
“We hope to grow our current momentum by impressing upon the industry all that Martinique has to offer today’s savvy cruise customer,” Roy-Camile said. “Millions of travelers choose cruise vacations to the Caribbean each year, but the industry cannot bank on offering the same itineraries to the same destinations year after year. Martinique is still new to most U.S. cruisers, yet offers all the modern infrastructure and unique experiences cruise passengers demand. We’re well positioned for growth and 100-percent open for cruise business.”

The 2010-11 cruise season in Martinique got off to a strong start as the French Caribbean island was added to the itineraries of the Carnival Victory, Celebrity Century and Disney Magic for the first time.

In addition to one-on-one meetings with all major cruise lines at the conference, the Martinique delegation also hosted an educational presentation for cruise travel agents, journalists and other cruise industry officials on enhancements to the island’s tourism product.

Cruise ships call on Martinique in the heart of downtown Fort-de-France, the island’s capital city. Cruise lines making port calls in Martinique during the 2010-11 cruise season include Celebrity, Costa Cruises, Disney, Holland America Line, Azamara Club Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Princess Cruises, Sea Cloud Cruises and Star Clippers.
