Maykel Blanco Makes Preps for Salsa Carnival in Cuba

The opening edition of the Salsa Carnival, an initiative spearheaded by Cuban musician Maykel Blanco, leader of Salsa Mayor –a band that performs popular dance music and belongs to the Musicaliacatalog, an artistic representation office run by Artex- is slated for the city of Havana on Feb. 25-28, 2016.
The event, to be presided over by Maykel Blanco himself, promises to be a major development, featuring one main stage and other collateral spots. The highlights of this big-ticket show will include live music performed by some of Cuba’s best bands every night.
According to the leader of Salsa Mayor, there’ll be bands with outstanding careers in Cuban music under their belts rubbing elbows with fledgling acts. The Carnival’s top goal will be, above all, the fostering of Cuba’s popular dance music.
Dance lessons, small-scale bands, soloists, vocalists, dance companies and deejays are some of the proposals that will mark the onstage programming. And even children will have a space they could call their own in this event, by the hand of dancing parades, companies of their peers and dance lessons that will target several Cuban rhythms.
What’s more, the event intends to pay tribute to boldface names of Cuban music and cultivators of that genre, setting the stage to recognize the job done by them in a bid to keep the fire of our musical roots burning.
The Salsa Carnival will take place on 1st Ave. and Malecon, stretching from Paseo Ave. all the way down to G Street. Right now, the project is in the initial planning stage. As time rolls on, more willingness will add up in order make this luring initiative –launched by Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor- come through.
