Melia Hints at New Developments in Cuba

Melia, the leading foreign hotel chain in Cuba, is reopening Paradisus Princesa del Mar Hotel with a new royal service and will be rebranding the Melia Peninsula –both in Varadero Beach. But the largest development in the works in the island nation’s number-one travel destination is no doubt the Melia Marina Varadero.

According to Marcel Rügg, communication manager for Melia’s Cuba Division, the new facility is expected to open this summer with 423 hotel rooms and will offer The Level Floor, a luxury space with 88 rooms and concierge service.

Mr. Rügg, who’s attending the 33rd edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2013) in the travel destination of Varadero, said this new resort will have spectacular views of the Marina Gaviota Punta Hicacos, more than 15 food spots, Wi-Fi, varied activities program, four pools, kids club, boardwalk for direct access to the beach, wedding gazebo and five multipurpose halls and two for meetings.

There will be also a waterfront commercial shopping center with discotheques, stores, restaurants, bars, game arcade, diving center, catamaran terminal and marina services (dockage and mooring). Diving, fishing and water sports lovers as well as couples, families and groups in business or pleasure trips will be some of the main attractions for visitors.

Participants at the tourism fair took a firsthand look at the first stage of the project and learned details about the services to be offered at the site in the near future, including fishing, scuba diving, coastal tours and other entertainment options.
