Michelin Issues Japan Green Guide in English
Following the success of the Michelin’s Voyager Pratique Japon (April 2007) and the Green Guide on Japan (March 2009), both of which were published in French, the English version of the book was released on Sept. 7.
The Green Guide includes well-known to low-key destinations in Japan with Michelin’s signature star rating system, and the guide awards three stars to nearly 100 tourism spots of historic and natural sites and UNESCO’s world heritage sites such as Mt. Fuji, Himeji Castle, Tokyo, Kyoto and Yakushima Island.
Michelin’s globally known Green Guide covers Japan from three angles: planning your trip, introduction to Japan and discovering Japan. Michelin’s Green Guide has over 80 years of history, recognized as guide books with descriptions on local culture and nature that fulfills multi-dimensional demands from travelers.
In addition, Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka 2010 was published in English and Japanese on Oct. 16, covering 203 restaurants and hotels in both cities with three levels of ratings. The book carefully chose restaurants and hotels in very historic cities of Kyoto and Osaka, where rich culinary and hospitality tradition that has been inherited and maintained over generations.
Michelin awarded stars for the first time to 22 ryokans, the traditional Japanese style inns. Unlike other Michelin Guides, Tokyo Guide and Kyoto & Osaka Guide are the only Michelin Guides that awards stars to all the featured hotels and restaurants.
