Nevis Tourism Expecting Positive Developments in 2011

The Hon. Joseph Parry, the Premier of Nevis, said the island’s main industry of Tourism has positive projections for the New Year. Nisbett Plantation, which is recognized internationally as a major Caribbean hotel, has experienced a 9 percent jump in occupancy for December 2010 over the same period in 2009. The trend is projected to continue into the first quarter of 2011.

Other hotels, such as the Oualie Beach Hotel, Montpelier and Nelson Spring Condominiums are also expecting a vigorous season. The newly re-opened Four Season is also projecting “a fruitful season” for February, March and April.

Sports tourism will receive a boost as some 500 triathlon athletes will compete in a major international event and will stay on Nevis for at least one week for the meet during the last week in March.

During the address, the Premier noted that he has attended some serious meetings with Tourism personnel to alert them of the possibility of some 1000 persons visiting Nevis during this period and the need to house, feed and entertain the athletes and their associates so that they would want to visit Nevis again.

“In 2011 the construction of a shopping centre in Charlestown, the Cosmetic Centre at New River, Marina in the Cades Bay area and the construction of the Aman Hotel at Indian Castle will be ‘massive’ as over, 200 persons will be employed permanently from the Aman development alone,” said the Hon. Joseph Parry

“With the contributions of the Four Seasons and the Aman Hotel, Nevis would be placed among the crème de la crème of Tourism destinations,” commented the Premier.
