Travelers arriving or departing Barbados will be fingerprinted beginning April 1, according to the country's Immigration Department.

The fingerprinting will be followed later this year with the introduction of facial scanning of passengers at the airport.

The only exemptions to the new regulations will be holders of diplomatic passports and children under the age of 16.

The same procedures will hold for cruise passengers, although the logistics of that process are still being finalized.

The new security measures will bring Barbados in line with international ports of entry, the Immigration Department said.
