Quito, Ecuador, Launches International Marketing Campaign

The Quito, Ecuador, Visitors’ Bureau announced a new international marketing campaign targeted toward American and European leisure travelers. The campaign will feature advertising, public relations, social media and travel trade activities in the U.S., Germany, Spain and the U.K., and promote the attractions of the historic city, which became UNESCO’s first World Heritage site in 1978.

Founded in the 16th century on the ruins of an ancient Inca city, Quito sits at over 9,000 feet surrounded by towering Andean volcanoes. Quito’s 320-acre historic center has 130 monuments and 5,000 heritage properties including colonial churches, chapels, monasteries and convents as well as museums, plazas and charming interior patios.

This year, the country will host a full calendar of concerts, festivals, fairs and events showcasing Ecuadorian folklore, jazz and sacred music. Cultural attractions include art exhibitions, concerts and theatrical performances.

More than $250 million has been invested in restoring the city’s cultural heritage in the past 10 years, according to the Visitor’s Bureau, which is also seeking to recruit more tour operators to sell the destination.
