To help reactivate the flow of national and foreign tourists to Mexico’s Riviera Maya now that the influenza outbreak has been brought under control, the Riviera Maya Destination Marketing Office unveiled a Web 2.0 campaign.

The centerpiece of the digital initiative is a website denominated http://www.holarivieramaya.com/, featuring content about the destination’s attractions as well as news about recent actions taken to encourage people to visit.

The campaign leverages digital tools such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr to demonstrate to potential tourists that the Riviera Maya is once again a safe place to visit. The contents of the sites emphasize the region’s wide array of offerings, including beaches, culture, cuisine, adventure, ecotourism and other leisure activities.

Elements of the campaign include testimonials from tourists currently enjoying the Riviera Maya’s beautiful natural surroundings as they describe their experiences and encourage the visitors of those social networks to visit the region as well.

According to Javier Aranda, director of the Riviera Maya Destination Marketing Office, the campaign is one of many initiatives the DMO has launched to reverse the recent presence of the AH1N1 virus’ effect on tourism, and it will remain in force until visitor levels return to normal.
