Small hotels in the Mexican Caribbean expect better occupancy rates
Though small hotels of less than 60 rooms in the Mayan Riviera have not fared well lately, owners hope to turn tables from this weekend on.
Over the past weekend, occupancy rates in small hotels hovered around 38.5 percent, a whole lot less than the previous weekend, the Trusteeship for the Tourist Promotion of the Mayan Riviera informed.
According to Lenin Amaro Betancourt, chairman of the Small Hotel Association, the flow of travelers will be up from this weekend on and therefore, owners expect to put on some good numbers after all.
”Unlike megabuck hotel chains, there’s no such occupancy rate bonanza for us as we’re increasingly depending on high-peak seasons,” he said.
For Mr. Betancourt, that figure is still pretty low and there’s nothing they can do but wait for the beginning of the wintertime high-peak season to raise those digits.
The ongoing wintertime season has not taken off yet, but local authorities anticipate a massive arrival of travelers from next weekend on. The Mayan Riviera’s room stock is little more than 22,000 accommodations.
