Snake Found at Luggage Cart at Bangkok Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, was forced to issue an apology after passengers found a coiled snake on a luggage cart Sunday in the arrival hall.

According to Nattasuda Anusonadisai of the Associated Press, a female passenger had loaded her bags onto the cart when she noticed the snake coiled around the base of it. Security was immediately notified of the wild animal loose in the arrival hall, and the snake was captured a short time later.

There were no injuries reported from passengers or employees.

Airport officials described it as a small baby snake, but failed to identify the species. Through images obtained by the media, snake expert Thanaphong Tawan believes it was a non-venomous Blanford’s bridle snake.

Suvarnabhumi Airport has worked diligently to keep small animals out of its facilities—easier said than done in an area previously dubbed “Cobra Swamp”—and the belief from officials is that the snake only made it inside due to its small size.

Officials at the facility formally apologized to passengers for the frightening incident.
