Three Dominican “Mother Ports” Nurture Cruise Tourism
The Dominican Republic adopted, in matters of harbors, the concept “mother port,” which is the point from where travelers embark, oriented to spur cruise tourism, with three facilities already operating under that category.
The rise in cruise travelers responds to the transformation and modernization of the country’s main ports, specifically those for tourists, such as the port of San Souci, which has become a “mother port” since the season began in November.
The cruise season began and an estimated 60 percent of the travelers are of foreign origin, which come to this country and board ships to go on the traditional tour of the Caribbean, said the Dominican Port Authority.
