Travel Leaders Poll Shows Most Americans Want to Visit Cuba

As U.S. travel restrictions continue to loosen, new poll shows 75 percent of Americans have a desire to travel to Cuba or may consider a trip if the U.S. government lifts all restrictions, according to a new Travel Leaders survey.

Seventy-five percent of consumers polled indicated they would travel to Cuba or might consider a trip to Cuba if all restrictions were lifted; another 1.7 percent said that they had already traveled there. That largely mirrors the 75 percent of polled Travel Leaders travel agents expressing the same desire to go, although 4 percent have already been to Cuba.

The consumer survey was conducted March 10 to April 10, 2011, and includes responses from 953 consumers throughout the U.S. The nationwide poll of 231 Travel Leaders travel agents was conducted March 2 to 15, 2011.

Just over 20 percent said they would visit Cuba immediately if all travel restrictions were lifted. Just under 22 percent said that they would go if they believed Cuba was ready for Americans. Thirty-three percent said that they might consider going.
