Universal Travel System (UTS) of Santa Monica, Calif., is offering a rare trip to North Korea. The company has visas for the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea). UTS took several groups of American travelers to this isolated country in June 2007 and September 2008.

It is offering a seven-day, five-night tour departing from Los Angeles via Asiana Airlines, for Beijing, where participants will spend two nights with a city tour that includes the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Tiananmen Square, and some free time to explore. A two-night Seoul package is offered to all passengers. Participants will be staying at the Hotel Lotte Hotel downtown Seoul. A full-day city tour is included. Tour continues to Beijing for two nights.

The following morning, the group flies to Pyongyang, the DPRK capital, and the political, economic and culture center of the country –a country of rugged natural beauty. The tour stays at the deluxe Pyongyang Koryo Hotel, a landmark in the city with its 45 floors and twin towers, several restaurants and bars.

Pyongyang was the capital of Koguryo, the first feudal state of Korea, with a long history. The city was leveled during the Korean War and was completely rebuilt, giving it the appearance of a modern city. There are over 70 large parks and recreation grounds and many monumental edifices, museums, cultural and art establishments.
