The list of Lufthansa A380 destinations in the USA is growing: Miami will be the next US destination to be served by the carrier’s flagship A380, following New York-JFK and San Francisco. Starting 10 June 2011, Lufthansa will be operating daily A380 flights from Frankfurt to the “sunshine state” Florida.

American Airlines’ recent reduction in flights to San Juan will have no measurable effect on leisure travel to Puerto Rico, said Mario Gonzalez Lafuente, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC). Speaking at a Friday media briefing at the International Destination Expo in San Juan, Gonzalez said Puerto Rico recorded a 4 percent increase in tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2011 versus 2010.

American Eagle commenced a second daily service between San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) and Saint Lucia’s George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) further enhancing Saint Lucia’s convenience for travelers flying from the US on American Airlines.

JetBlue Airways, the largest carrier in Puerto Rico in terms of capacity, is making it even easier to travel between San Juan and neighboring Caribbean islands with the announcement of plans to launch nonstop daily service to St. Maarten (SXM), subject to receipt of government approval. This new route will be the value airline’s eighth non-stop destination out of San Juan and its third out of St. Maarten

With UK visitor numbers growing by over 60 percent in the last two years, Thomson Airways have taken the decision to extend it flights to the Caribbean island of Aruba. Currently their weekly flight from Gatwick on Tuesdays operates from May until October however they will continue to serve the island until the end of November this year. From 2012 the liaison will start even earlier on March 27.

AirTran Airways has begun daily nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and L.F. Wade International Airport in St. George’s, Bermuda.
