Now that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has raised Mexico’s aviation safety rating to Category 1, Aeromexico will reestablish its codeshare flights with its U.S. airline partner as of Dec. 11. The airline will reinstate its 45 daily codeshare flights with Delta Air Lines.

AirTran Airways has announced new nonstop, seasonal service to L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda, from Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Representatives of the United States and Brazil have agreed to implement an Open-Skies aviation regime, which will significantly liberalize U.S.-Brazil air services for airlines of both countries over a transition period. “This agreement means the travelers, shippers, airlines and economies of both the United States and Brazil will benefit from competitive pricing and more convenient service,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

Final preparations for the launch of the new Caribbean Airlines from JFK to Antigua and Barbuda on December 14 are in full gear. The non-stop service which will run on Tuesdays and Fridays, will originate from Port of Spain to V.C. Bird International Airport with return service from New York’s JFK.

Lufthansa said on Monday it will start trial use of biofuels on aircraft in commercial flights from April 2011. The airline will use synthetic fuel supplied by Finland’s Neste Oil, it said. The six-month trial will involve Airbus A321 aircraft flying between Hamburg and Frankfurt.

Aerolineas Argentinas has signed an agreement to join SkyTeam in 2012. Aerolineas will be SkyTeam’s first South American member, adding 38 new destinations to the SkyTeam network. SkyTeam is actively working to strengthen its presence in Latin America. As the first South American member, Aerolineas Argentinas fits well in SkyTeam’s expansion strategy, enhancing the network in the region by offering multiple new destinations in the southern hemisphere
